Dr Daniel Judge is a Sleep, Respiratory and General Physician and is joined by a team of sleep technologists and administrative staff, at our private rooms, to provide patients with quality evidence-based medical services.

Dr Judge is a graduate of the University of Queensland and completed his Respiratory and Sleep Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. He undertook fellowship training in Sleep Medicine and Respiratory Failure at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Sydney.

Dr Judge is a clinical researcher in the field of sleep medicine, and is affiliated with the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, and the University of Sydney.

Dr Judge is a Consultant Physician at the Cairns Private Hospital, as well as in Tuberculosis in Cape York and the Torres Strait.

Having worked for several years in Far North Queensland and the Northern Territory, Dr Judge has extensive experience in Indigenous health and the delivery of specialty service in rural and remote settings. Dr Judge is from North Queensland and lives in Cairns with his young family.

 

Breathe is fortunate to work closely with Dr Kerri Melehan PhD, a senior sleep scientist from the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Kerri lectures in the Master of Sleep Medicine course at the University of Sydney.

She is a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, an Expert Somnologist Technologist and is the president of the Australasian Sleep Technologist Association.

Dr Eduardo Gaio is a Sleep and Respiratory Physician, who has completed his specialty training in Intensive Care medicine and respiratory medicine at the University of Brasilia, Brazil.

His qualifications include a master’s in sleep medicine from Pablo de Olavide University, Spain, a PhD in medical sciences from the University of Brasilia, and graduation in applied statistics from Swinburne University of Technology.

Dr Gaio has completed post-doctoral studies in the world-renowned Department of Physiology, at the University of California in San Diego; and has supervised post-graduate researchers at the University of Brasilia.

He held an Associate Professor position at the University of Brasilia and a Senior Lecturer position at Deakin University.

Dr Eduardo Gaio has been working at private clinics in Victoria, Australia, as well as at private and public hospitals, since arriving to Australia in 2016.

 

Dr Baig is an overseas-trained physician who graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal—one of the top ten medical schools in India. He subsequently completed specialist training in General Medicine (MD) and gained three years of non-training experience in Nephrology as a consultant.

He later specialised again in General Medicine in Australia, obtaining his FRACP in 2016, and has been working as a physician at Cairns Public Hospital for the past ten years.

Dr Baig’s clinical interests include General Medicine, Nephrology, early chronic kidney disease, CKD related to diabetes, and comprehensive diabetes management, including the management of complications (excluding peripheral vascular disease). 

His areas of expertise also include cardiac failure management, thromboembolic disease management, hypertension, diagnostic neurological problems (such as neuropathies, radiculopathies, and myopathies), as well as the diagnosis and management of infectious conditions, including pyrexia of unknown origin (PUO).

Dr Baig is also fluent in both Hindi and Kashmiri.

 

Breathe would like to welcome Dr Rakesh Pandey, who is a Specialist Physician in General Internal Medicine and Nephrology, dual FRACP-qualified; with extensive experience across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He currently practises at Cairns Hospital and the Cairns Private Hospital.

He provides comprehensive assessment and management of adult patients with complex medical and renal conditions, including chronic kidney disease, resistant hypertension, electrolyte disorders (including hyponatraemia), diabetic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, and acute kidney injury.  He also offers general physician review for patients with multisystem or undifferentiated presentations.

Dr Pandey aims to deliver timely, practical, and clearly communicated management plans, with a strong focus on supporting GPs in ongoing care.  He is happy to see patients for both one-off opinions and shared long-term management.

Referral services include:

• Chronic kidney disease (all stages)
• Hypertension (including resistant/secondary causes) and Labile BP
• Electrolyte disorders (e.g. hyponatraemia, hyperkalaemia)
• Proteinuria and haematuria assessment
• Acute kidney injury and post-discharge follow-up
• Diabetic kidney disease
• Glomerular disease and nephrotic syndrome
• Dialysis and transplant-related issues
• General physician review (weight loss, fatigue, multisystem disease, diagnostic uncertainty)

Referrers can expect clear correspondence, prompt communication of significant results, and collaborative management.  Dr Pandey is also available for advice regarding appropriate investigations prior to referral where needed.

 

Breathe would also like to welcome Dr Gagan Swami (MD, MRCP London), who is a consultant in Thoracic Medicine at the Cairns Hospital. 

Previously trained in the UK, where he was working as a Respiratory Consultant at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital; he was the lead of Long-Term Ventilation service, Sleep Medicine and Respiratory High Dependency Unit responsible for the service development, teaching and supervision of trainees. 

He received clinical excellence award for his contribution towards COVID pandemic as a new consultant with subspecialty interest in Mechanical Ventilation. He has been passionate in education and contributed to the tutoring of medical students.

He was a Principal Investigator for the Gloucestershire site for research involving sleep medicine and COPD, and has continued the role of Principal Investigator for a project involving Interstitial Lung Disease at Cairns Hospital.  

Dr Swami is also fluent in both Hindi and Punjabi

 

We would like to welcome Dr Ebi Onini, who is a highly accomplished Consultant Respiratory Physician at Cairns Hospital. Driven by an uncompromising commitment to clinical excellence and patient well-being,  Dr Onini specialises in diagnosing and managing a diverse spectrum of complex respiratory conditions, including Asthma, COPD, Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), pulmonary infections and lung cancer, amongst others.

Dr Onini’s international career spans foundational training and consultant practice across Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. He earned his medical degree from the Ambrose Alli University College of Medicine; completed his basic residency training at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa; and underwent advanced training in Respiratory Medicine at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex.  Before relocating to Australia, he served as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Nigeria; and as a Respiratory Medicine Specialist at the King Salman Specialist Hospital in Hail, Saudi Arabia.

Widely recognised for his strict adherence to medical ethics, and unwavering dedication to patient service; Dr Onini was honored with a COVID-19 Hero Award, at the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa, for his frontline contributions during the pandemic.  He is deeply passionate about advancing the field through medical research and is actively invested in mentoring and teaching the next generation of junior medical colleagues.  Looking to the future, Dr Onini is continuously expanding his expertise, with a keen clinical focus on Sleep Medicine and interventional pulmonology.
